Belles and Beaus of Jacksonville Oregon gather in November 2011 at Bybee's Historic Inn for an evening of Victorian fun.You just never know what's going to happen next when you visit an Oregon bed and breakfast.

Vikki Lynn and Tina Marie of Bybee's Historic Inn near Jacksonville, OR, don't let the grass grow under their feet!  There's always something new and exciting going on at this authentic Oregon lodging.  Here's a report about a recent Northwest culinary event at their inn, combined with a little bit of Victorian fun.

They write:

November 5th: Twenty-two members of Belles and Beaus of Jacksonville enjoyed and evening of Victorian tradition at the Bybee’s Historic Inn.   Belles and Beaus is an organization that promotes history by dressing The gentleman of Belles and Beaus of Jacksonville Oregon gather at Bybee's Historic Innin vintage clothing and accessories while reviving the traditions of the 1800’s.  They pay attention to every detail including the clutches the ladies carried containing period appropriate items.

After a gourmet dinner catered by Chef William Prahl of Deja Vu in Jacksonville, the ladies retired to the Parlor and the men remained in the dining room just as it was done in the Victorian era.

To finish off the evening everyone gathered in the parlor to play Victorian games.  It was truly magical to have our 1857 circa home filled with guests representing that period.

Innkeepers Vicki and Tina Marie working on an new addition to one of their Southern Oregon wedding venues at Bybee's Historic Inn in Jacksonville, ORWhen you own and operate an Oregon bed and breakfast and you're also one of the popular Oregon wedding sites, you need to plan your improvements accordingly.  Vicki and Tina Marie at Bybee's Historic Inn in Jacksonville, OR, are doing just that.  Here's a little note about their latest improvement.  Vicki writes:

"As our 2011 summer season comes to an end, we are working on new amenities for the 2012 season.  Tina has always envisioned an outdoor fireplace in the north yard and this fall it became a reality.  She designed it and we built it ourselves.  It is framed with cinder blocks, lined with clay firebricks and finished on the outside with river rock and brick.

Outdoor fireplace is just one area you might choose one of Southern Oregon wedding sites popular locations in Jacksonville, OR at Bybee's Historic InnIt is a beautiful addition to one of our wedding areas as well as a fun place for our guests to relax under the stars gazing at the fire."

Southern Oregon brides and bridal planners take note!  Bybee's Historic Inn has a variety of locations on the property suitable for outdoor or indoor weddings and is a perfect Oregon wedding location.  In another blog post, Vicki described how they were able to salvage an old maple tree and transform it into a stately "gentleman with top hat" ready to pose with the wedding party at a moment's notice.

What to do when you lose an old tree? How about Oregon wedding sites?

Wednesday, September 21, 2011 by Heather Tyreman

Old maple tree on the grounds of Bybee's Historic Inn Jacksonville OR before the transformation.Bed and breakfasts are such wonderful places.  And bed and breakfast owners are special people interested in the properties they transform into B&Bs.  Many inns are located in historically significant homes and the owners do what they can to maintain the character of the house and its surroundings.

It's been said that B&B owners have done more for the preservation of older and/or historic homes in the United States through their preservation efforts than have the preservation societies (perhaps a topic for another discussion).

Here's a story submitted by Vikki Lynn and Tina Marie of Bybee's Historic Inn near Jacksonville in Southern Oregon.

We recently were forced to cut down an old maple tree that we figure to be over 154 years old.  He graced our sidewalk and shaded our porch.  We adorned this beautiful tree with flowers at its base along with a “gnome door” and a face to help bring out his character.

Rescued maple tree trunk at Bybee's Historic Inn Jacksonville Oregon and one of the Oregon wedding sitesWe did everything possible over the last 5 years to save this beautiful friend so it was very devastating to think of losing his graceful presence.....so we decided to keep his stump at 8’ so that his face could still shine and then we gave him a “top hat”.   His hat also provides a home for beautiful flowering plants.   He gives us a lot of pleasure every time we look at him and we hope it brings a smile to everyone who sees him.

It could just be off thought, but I'll bet dollars to doughnuts that Mr. Maple is about to start his new life as an Oregon wedding guest or perhaps as a wedding party participant.  Can't you see the bridal party posing with this fine fellow?  Check out Oregon wedding sites five years from now and I'll bet he shows up in quite a few photos!

If you're looking for Oregon wedding sites, keep Bybee's Historic Inn under consideration.  On 3 1/2 acres with plenty of gazebos and verandas, there's room for 150 wedding guests.  And I'm thinking that Mr. Maple would be proud to stand for your wedding photos!

A view of the garden from the porch of Bybee's Historic Inn near Ashland Oregon in Jacksonville OregonJust like anyone else, innkeepers just LOVE to hear stories from their guests.  Here's one from a guest of Bybee's Historic Inn in Jacksonville, Oregon.

Do you have a story about what you did when you visited an Oregon bed and breakfast?  We'd love to hear from you too--click the link at the right of this blog to tell us your story.  We'd love to read about it and you'll be entered into a drawing for $100 worth of Oregon Bed and Breakfast Guild lodging gift vouchers.

The Bybee House is a wonderful Bed and Breakfast, unsurpassed in my experience, which is considerable. Vikki and Tina are great hostesses. The rooms are in impeccable condition. The rates are reasonable, and it is obvious that most of the money goes back into this treasure. The mattresses are the best. It is a real treat to wake up without back pain. You will wake up not to a muffin, but to a wonderful gourmet breakfast. Take a look at the guest books in each room. Historic Jacksonville is a short distance, and itself filled with nice restaurants and cantinas. As for us, we will be back on the slightest excuse!

McKenzie River Inn Bed, Breakfast and Cabins ~ Nestled in the Cascade Range of Oregon

The McKenzie River Inn B&B and Cabins
Many people are thinking this spring in the Pacific North West has been cold and wet. I don't blame them, yes, ...but there have been years that set a record and I don't think this was one of them. Actually I would say this spring made our garden incredible lush and green and full of colors of blooming flowers. The rhododendrons , azalea's, lilacs, snowballs are so voluminous and big and with so many flowers it looks like our yard is on fire.

With weddings coming up next week and summer we called in some help us to get the whole property to look at it's best. Ellie, my innkeeper and sister in law, has made together with Yvette and my wife a tremendous effort to get all the flowerbeds, pathways, sitting area's, trails etc. ready, and it looks fantastic. There's still work to be done, but for now the blend of the manicured and natural area's make this Bed and Breakfast stand out in it's own way.

A Forest Path near the McKenzie River Inn B&B and CabinsLast weekend it was gorgeous weather and guests enjoyed the property sitting in lounge chairs watching the river flow by and by walking the river trail that starts at the waterfront. With fresh wood chips on top it will take you into the forest and meanders towards the entrance bypassing many indigenous plants and trees. There's even an old trunk covered with lichens (see picture below: a combination of a fungus and algae) some of them in bloom. It is beautiful and the McKenzie River Inn is shaping up for summer.

The McKenzie River Inn B&B and Cabins is an inspected and approved member of the Oregon Bed and Breakfast. The Inn sits comfortably on two-and-one-half acres in a forest setting, on the banks of the McKenzie.  Cedar and fir trees line the drive to the home that was built in 1929.  There is a small orchard with apple, pear and plum trees.  The Inn has a cozy sun room with a book- and a video library.  The great room is paneled in knotty pine with an open beam ceiling and a brick fireplace.  Enjoy a full gourmet breakfast in our dining room with a cup of steaming coffee and organic apple or pear juice from the orchard.  Hot entree's vary from Belgian hazelnut waffles, smoked salmon omelets, 10 grain pancakes or cinnamon French toast.

Monday, May 16, 2011 by Heather Tyreman
Baby showers at Bybee's Historic Inn in Jacksonville ORNow that Spring is definitely here things are starting to pop in Southern Oregon.  Bybee's Historic Inn is a favorite location in Southern Oregon for baby showers, birthday tea parties and other celebrations--not to mention that Bybee's is a fantastic Oregon wedding location.

Innkeepers Tina Marie and Vikki Lynn share the following with us:

Bybee’s has had a busy spring already.  We have had Tea parties for baby showers, birthdays.

There are two menu categories to choose from one includes either champagne punch or regular punch, Salad, three choices of savories and two choices of sweets as well as a scone.

Started with punch while the ladies chose their hats and boas. The ladies had so much fun giggling and laughing while trying to choose “just the right hat.”

After being seated they were served their Almond berry scone and clotted cream while enjoying their choice of teas.

Then came the mixed baby green salad with roasted beets and goat cheese paté with a vinaigrette drizzle.

High Tea at Bybee's Historic Inn in Southern Oregon includes Ladies TeaSavories included Cucumber basil tea sandwich, Turkey watercress canapé and Gorgonzola quiche.  Sweets choices were Hazelnut Meringue kisses with chocolate and Bavarian cream fruit tart.

After the tea they gathered in the “Ladies Parlor”  where they played games and opened delightful gifts.

We offer “high tea with a twist”....celebrating brides, baby showers, birthdays, Mother's Day and other special occasions.

Hungry yet?  My goodness!  What great fun!  If you're planning a wedding party, a shower or another reason for a ladies function, consider one of Oregon's unique inns:  Bybee's Historic Inn just outside of Jacksonville, Oregon.  Call Tina Marie or Vikki Lynn at (541) 899-0106 to plan your party!

Oregon Coastline: A Bed and Breakfast Inn That Renews, Recharges and Rejuvenates

Author: C.J. Good

Have you ever sojourned to a place that thrilled and excited you? Have you ever felt your spirit vibrate in response to the fierceness and solitude of nature? When was the last time you felt the warmth of the sun, soaking in through your skin and muscles? What if along the way, you could learn volumes of local history, see breathtaking views that most people only read about in books, and become enchanted with the local wildlife?

Travelers would serve themselves well to explore the Oregon coastline. In so doing, they may very well uncover a special passion that propels them to renew, rejuvenate and reconnect.

Port Orford, Oregon is a quaint, artistic fishing village in the southern Oregon coast. It was founded in 1861 and served as a port for timber shipping.

At the WildSpring Guest Habitat in Port Orford, guests can sit in a hot tub overlooking the sea, ensconced in fountains of bubbles, smelling the scent of ocean mists coming from the waves.

The true power of Oregon's coastline lies in the notable lessons that its natural environment can teach us. We are exposed to a unique set of conditions, which are not found in large cities. The landscape consists of mountains and forests meeting with the turbulent ocean, and is quite dramatic. The natural beauty, clean air, expansive vistas and unbeaten paths make for a great B & B getaway.

A small bed and breakfast inn is a place where we can build compelling new affinities. As personal witnesses to the charm of the area and special activities of the region, local innkeepers can lend their already fascinating insights, and indulgent touches. Bed and breakfast accommodations are generally more appealing than mundane and sterile hotel chains.

One needs a great deal of guts, patience, eye-opening creativity, perseverance and hard work to succeed in the modern business world. For those of us who have stressful jobs, there comes a point when we should take time out for rest and stillness. If we could choose a destination that makes us feel deep and serenely peaceful, where life is slowed down, where we can immerse ourselves into the delights of gorgeous nature, it can be like a soothing, soft lullaby.

When we look at the anxiety ridden thoughts that clutter our minds, we can't help being concerned. It is little wonder that small bed and breakfast inns have proliferated along the coastal shores of Oregon; providing unique combinations of comfort, relaxation and rejuvenation.

The Oregon coast is a destination that can inspire us. The breakthrough moments come when our energy is replenished. This allows passing thoughts to ascend to defining expressions of our personal creativity and translates into success and accomplishment.

Michelle Duarte, innkeeper of WildSpring Guest Habitat in Port Orford, Oregon told me: "Some business people come very stressed and we understand the psychology. Everyone wants to feel that someone is looking out for his or her best interests. They want to know that the innkeepers know enough and care enough to do that. What it takes to be a good innkeeper is empathy and compassion; the ability to think about what the other person would like if they were in this situation. The whole approach is about what other people need."

Continues Michelle: "Some people are really moved to come here at the times of their lives when they need special attention to heal, to celebrate, or to be alone and find solace within themselves. When they experience great trauma, they are inclined to come here because they sense they will find some consolation in order to recover here."

"WildSpring has put together trips for guests who have suffered arduous and difficult treatments for breast cancer," remarks Michelle. "The travel agent sent them to our place so they could find their center and energy again."

The Oregon coast provided relief to a woman who lost her husband and son. "She came with her best friends," shared Michelle. "It was terribly moving that she was able to find peace in her soul from what she found here."

On the happier side of life, quite a few engagements are made at the Oregon coast. Couples return for their weddings, honeymoons, and anniversaries.

Older, middle aged twosomes, whose kids have left, enjoy the Oregon coast as it rekindles the magic that brought them together in the first place. Mothers like to bring their daughters for birthdays or retreats. Their physical, emotional and mental selves get renewed when they are submerged in nature.

"Part of an innkeepers life is challenging," admits Michelle. "We are providing peak experiences in peoples lives. We have a desire to be of service. It is nice to make people happy, so we might make a difference. We try to make sure that everything our guests see and touch is natural. When we live in an urban life, we get divorced from nature."

FEATURED PROPERTY: WildSpring Guest Habitat is an Eco friendly resort in Port Orford, Oregon. They get to take the best parts of home with them. Visitors enjoy the support of innkeepers who want to make them feel pampered and comfortable.

Wine Country Farm...An Oregon Bed and Breakfast!

Thursday, April 7, 2011 by Debbie Lusk
Wine Country InnA view from any room in this newest Oregon Bed and Breakfast Guild membership inn is the best view in the house!

From atop a hill, surrounded by acres of vineyards, sits the Wine Country Farm.  True to its name, this inn is perfectly situated in some of the most fertile land in the country and yes they do take advantage of that by producing some of the best wine in the valley as well.

In the inn keeping business for about 20 years, JoanWine Country Farm offers nine rooms with private baths, free WiFi, down comforters, robes and all the usual amenities you'll find at any well appointed hotel. Davenport runs quite an operation at her inn in Dayton.  Not only is her 9 room bed and breakfast a full time job, her winery keeps her pretty busy too.  And there's more!

Last September, I had the pleasure of seeing Oregon wine country via horseback.  Equestrian Wine Tours guided this wine and horse lover through vineyard after vineyard and wineries where we filled our saddle bags to the brim with the best of Oregon wines. So, needless to say, when I drove up to the Wine Country Farm, that awesome memory of last fall came flooding back when I realized this is the inn where I took that ride from.  I highly recommend it to anyone who loves horses and/or wine.  The saddlebags are big enough for several bottles and the horses don't mind waiting around while you taste!

Equestrian Wine Ride in the Willamette Valley. Horseback wine tasting is a unique way to experience some of Oregon's finest wineries and vineyards. An inn, an event center for weddings, parties and gatherings, a winery and horse stables for that wine ride and the perfect spot for all the fun in one place.  Wine Country Farm has it all!

Welcome Joan and Wine Country Farm to the best line up of bed and breakfasts in the entire state of Oregon.  We are glad to have you on our list of Oregon Bed and Breakfast Guild membership inns!

"My Stay at Bybee's Historic Inn...Jacksonville, Oregon"

Friday, March 25, 2011 by Debbie Lusk
Guest Room at Bybee'sHave I mentioned lately how much I love my "volunteer" job with the Oregon Bed and Breakfast Guild?  Well, if not...here goes!  I LOVE THIS GIG!!!

I am one half of the OBBG membership team and believe me when I say that it is all about being a "team!"  Many of our innkeepers have experience when performing inspections for new inns and re-inspecting those inns that have been members for many years.  However, one inn in particular...Bybee's Historic Inn near Jacksonville, OR joined us about one year ago and I could hardly wait to see thisA guest room at Bybee's gorgeous place.  Well, as luck would have it, I had to give this "new member" inspection to a friend, team player and fellow innkeeper.  Fred Wickman from the Prospect Historic Hotel-Motel and Dinner House had the divine pleasure of performing this "new inn inspection and I was very jealous!

Needless to say, he was quite smitten with this beautiful inn.  A wonderful addition to our organization, a perfect location just outside of Jacksonville and again another reason to brag about OBBG and their awesome list of membership inns!

Performing inspections can take us to many different regions in Oregon and my luck wasporch at Bybee's changing and took me right to Bybee's a few days ago.  Not for another inspection but for just a night away and a chance to see the inn.  Cousins and friends Tina Marie and Vikki Lynn have done a wonderful job as innkeepers. Their "historical character dinners of the 1800's, unique themed dinners and high tea's for any occasion, elegant romantic getaways, private weddings, receptions, and unforgettable honeymoons," only add to the stunning surroundings that make you want to stay.

Thank you ladies for making our stay just perfect.  Your special touch on everything you do made us feel special, pampered and very well taken care of!

Mental and Physical reTREAT!

Monday, July 19, 2010 by Stories From Our Guests
My son and I came for a two-night stay to attend a wedding at the Old Miller Farm, right down the road from this enchanting B&B. The setting could not have been more perfect, with the background of the glorious and grand Mt. Hood presiding over us, the movement of the sun helping him change his colors and mood throughout the day, each one more beautiful and intriguing as the next. To my delight, I discovered THE SWING on the porch of the B&B and was immediately wisked back to my childhood on my grandparent's porch, where the only care in the world was wondering when the blueberry buckle would be ready to eat! It was so peaceful and relaxing I found myself asleep on the swing within minutes, drool hanging from my lips-whether it was from sleep or from anticipation of the upcoming treat, I am not sure :-). If anyone needs a break from the stress of life and wants a physical or mental recharge, come stay at an Inn in the Mt. Hood area. My recommendation is the Old Parkdale Inn-those two days felt like a week long stress free vacation! Thank you, Mary (the owner)for providing such a wonderful memory.

Move Your Family Reunion into A B&B This Summer

Tuesday, July 13, 2010 by Mary Pellegrini

From BnBFinder Bed and Breakfast Blog:

"Family reunions are no longer limited to Thanksgiving or Christmas, or to being a one-day potato salad and hot dog affair. They can be customized to embrace every family’s lifestyle and hobbies, and for that reason, bed and breakfasts and innkeepers can be a reunion-planner’s best friend. Many B&Bs offer their entire premises as the venue for staging your event, and also offer a variety of packages  and activities to fit your family’s budget and preferences. Some innkeepers even create fun themes around which activities may be planned, and also arrange itineraries that include trips to theme parks, museums, beaches, or other local attractions. Common areas, such as gardens, and porches provide comfortable gathering spots for family members to reconnect and reminisce.  Add to that bountiful breakfasts served to you and your kin every morning, and the joy of having no dishes to wash, and you’ve got the ideal setting for an easy and enjoyable family reunion."

A Family Reunion in the Gardens of the Old Parkdale Inn Bed and BreakfastMany of the inns of the Oregon Bed and Breakfast Guild have the space, grounds and ideal settings for your reunion, retreat, reception, and weddings.  For larger events visit the Retreats and Weddings Location Page of the Guild website.

For a smaller more intimate gathering of family and friends any one of 87 inns of the Oregon Bed and Breakfast Guild will work.  We've had a few reunions at our inn this spring/summer.  We can accommodate 10 at our inn.  Some gatherings were large, up to 40 folks, and although we were not able to accommodate all, only three rooms in the Old Parkdale Inn, we were able to find rooms close by and our gardens made for the perfect setting for reuniting and intimate conversation.

"Keep in mind that like families, no two inns are alike, so finding the perfect match between the B&B and the location is key to the success of the event. Whatever your preference, bed and breakfasts are the ideal place for connecting the great grandparents to the newborns in the family. No need to wait until Christmas to see your loved ones. Instead, why not get together at a family-friendly inn this summer?"

A Bed and Breakfast in Oregon...Forest Springs in Gresham, Oregon!

Saturday, July 3, 2010 by Debbie Lusk
Following my recipe for fun, we mixed a chef that owns a beautiful B & B in Gresham, a few friends and a few of my family members together and you will not believe what we made!  It was amazing and delicious and spectacular and perfect!

Two lasagne's later, after the bruschetta and olive tampenade, but during the caprese and the salad then again later when the Dutch Apple Cheesecake Tart came out of the oven...oh my gosh Patrick!  All we could say was, "it was gorgeous, delicious, slice me a big piece and when can we move in?"

My nephew visiting from PA loves cooking and Patrick at Forest Springs Bed and Breakfast in Gresham said "yes" when I asked him a few months ago to give Drew a cooking lesson.  Little did I know that this chef and his student would prepare such an awesome feast.  Homemade pasta, sauce made with onions, peppers, mushrooms and wow...so good!  I couldn't help but peek into the kitchen every now and then to get a picture of these two working together to make our meal.  But I made time to explore Forest Springs and take some photos and I do believe this is one of most gorgeous settings I have ever seen!

Forest Springs is breathtaking in itself as it is perched up on a hill surrounded by 3 acres of Oregon foliage.  Magnificent trees, plants, ponds, garden sheds and the perfect place for a wedding!  And that's a good thing because that is a lot of what goes on at Forest Springs Bed and Breakfast.  Patrick is a talented chef and takes those talents right from the breakfasts he prepares for his guests as they dine in the garden and later as he observes as they wed in that very spot.  A "secret" space of sorts surrounded by peace and tranquility but not too far from civilization and close enough to get right up to the dining table when he calls you for lasagna!

Thank you Patrick and Stan!  You did an awesome job Drew and dinner was delightful surrounded by friends, family, good wine and food and in the middle of an Oregon forest!
