Oregon's Best Bed and Breakfasts

One distinct advantage to being a member of the Oregon Bed & Breakfast Guild is the opportunity to participate in the OBBG Innkeeper's Getaway Program.  It's an economical way for bed and breakfast owners to getaway for a night or two and stay with another bed and breakfast--partially for rejuvenation and partially to share ideas (or steal a few great ones).  Funds paid go to reimburse the hosting innkeeper for expenses and for supporting OBBG membership programs.

On Tuesday evening, Bill & I stayed in Portland, Oregon, at the Rose Cottage Bed and Breakfast as guests of Sally Palmer and her lovely companion Austen.  Sally is a long-time, highly experienced innkeeper and it certainly shows in her most current B&B (she's owned a few).  Sally constructed the Rose Cottage B&B so the lodging is perfectly designed for hospitality and privacy.

We're staying in the Wild Rose Suite.  I created this blog post in the sitting room, next to the gas/electric fireplace, while Bill surfed the HDTV.  Sally provided us with a split of local Syrah wine while we settled into our new digs.

This B&B is so well sound insulated that you wouldn't know you're in the city and only 10 minutes from downtown Portland!  If I were here on business or travelling as a woman by myself, I would feel completely comfortable here at the Rose Cottage B&B.

In the morning Sally served a lovely 3 course breakfast starting with juice and a fruit cup (kiwis, fresh tropical fruit and a lime zest--yum).  Her homemade cream scones with crystalized ginger are to die for, especially with the figgy jam and butter.  For the main course, we savored an exquisite omlette filled with goat and sheep milk feta and sauteed peppers & red onion, with roasted herbed potatoes on the side.  Local Canadian style bacon (hormone and antibiotic free, of course) rounded it up.
