The Tillamook Air Museum on the Beautiful Oregon Coast

Tillamook Air Museum is an aviation museum located south of Tillamook, Oregon at Tillamook Airport .  The museum is housed in a former military blimp hangar, called "Hangar B", which is the largest clear-span wooden structure in the world.  The Tillamook Air Museum has been described as "one of the country's top private World War II aircraft collections".

Tillamook Air Museum on the beautiful Oregon Coast

Constructed by the US Navy in 1942 during World War II for Naval Air Station Tillamook, the hangar building housing the aircraft is 1,072 feet long and 296 feet wide, giving it over 6 acres of space. It stands at 192 feet tall. The doors weigh 30 tons each and are 120 feet tall.  Hangar "B" is one of two that were built on the site originally, Hangar "A" was destroyed by fire in 1992.  The Blimps were uses for anti-submarine coast patrol and convoy escort.and since 1994 the remaining hangar has been home to one of the top five privately owned aircraft collections in the nation.

With broad, sandy beaches, an abundance of open space, plenty of authentic Oregon sites and sounds it's no wonder that the Oregon Coast is a popular destination.  But don't go without making a reservation at an Oregon Bed and Breakfast Guild member inn.  The Oregon Coast is a very popular destination and there are nights when a pillow is hard to find.
