Looking for Portland, Oregon lodging? Looking for a nice B & B near all the downtown shopping? Looking for a new place to have lunch? Well, it's that time of year and not only are Portland restaurants exuding their usual delights, they are turning their skills up a few notches and providing "foodies" a chance to taste all that is so good in holiday and seasonal faire!
The Oregon Bed and Breakfast Guild has 90 membership inns all over the state of Oregon. A dozen of these inns are located in Portland. Some within walking distance to restaurants, new neighborhoods that are really old neighborhoods that have decided that old is the new "cool" when it comes to location, trendy restaurants and boutiques. Providing something new to see and do for visitors to Portland staying in one our Oregon Bed and Breakfasts and like myself always wanting to check out a new place to have lunch or dinner is a priority.
Our shopping trip to Portland last week took us to the Hawthorne District in Portland where we looked for that perfect "new" place to have lunch. Big surprise huh? Our first experience in this area of town and not nearly enough time to see everything makes it again number one on our list of places to explore further next time we are in town. And of course again, we have probably found our "new" favorite place to have lunch! Bread and Ink Cafe on Hawthorne caught my eye immediately and yes it's probably because it had "bread" in its name. Once inside, this quaint cafe was bustling at 2pm on a Thursday afternoon. Pretty darned impressive and, I confess...I ordered dessert before I even ordered my lunch. "A Slice of Pumpkin Pecan Pie please with two forks!" Sweet Potato Latkes with homemade applesauce, sour cream and a salad...then the pie! Yes, the pie was very much worth the wait and we enjoyed every bite before heading downtown.
Strolling along in the Pearl, the trees lining the streets were lit and shining, the cafes were full of people enjoying themselves, Powell's Books was packed with avid readers and the mall was bustling with shoppers getting a jump on their holiday shopping. Downtown Portland in November with the Christmas tree in it's place at Pioneer Square waiting to shine was not only romantic but it set that spark of excitement as we get ready to celebrate the holidays.
Stay in the city this season, enjoy the holiday menu's at the quaint cafes, see the tree lit at Pioneer Square and celebrate all this gorgeous this time of year in Portland!
